Green Food Wrapper
(From “The Hindu”, 22 Feb 2019)
Kesophane is a cellophane paper manufactured by Cygnet Industries Ltd., a wholly-owned subsidiary of B.K. Birla Group company Kesoram Industries Ltd. It is made from natural wood, is non-toxic and biodegradable. It is this product that is being targeted as a substitute for existing food packaging options such as foils and plastic. The company sees this as a niche product and is targeting the retail customer. This product is creating interest in the consumer packaging industry, hospitals and hotels.
Having converted from plastic carry bag to a “carry your own bag” culture, the Indian consumer often does not have an option to avoid plastic when it comes to packaging “takeaway” food. Looks like things are going to change. We are going to a “no plastic” zone in yet another domain. Can’t wait to see the paper wrapping the morning Idli Dosa Swiggy order!
